It depends on your age on the renewal date. A private licence renewed at 40 to under 50 lasts 10 years, at 50 to under 55 it lasts until 60, and from 55 it lasts 5 years. Transport licences last 5 years, and hazardous goods licences 3 years, under Section 14 as amended in 2019.

Renewal will be refused unless you pass the test of competence to drive, under Section 15 as amended in 2019. The fee rises to ₹300 plus ₹1,000 for each year or part of a year, and the test costs ₹300 per class of vehicle. If you are 40 or older, you need a fresh Form 1A too.
